There are loads of snakes out there in the wild that you might want to know about. Here is a list of my favourite snakes:
- King Cobra. It is poisonous and can kill an elephant in twenty minutes or more, depending on how big the elephant is. It could kill a human in about 15 minutes. The King Cobra has a hood to protect itself from the Yellow Mongoose and other predators; the hood makes it look a lot bigger.
- Rattlesnake. People might not know if Rattlesnakes are poisonous or not. In fact, they are. They have very long fangs. As an experiment, get a piece of paper and a glass dish, make the Rattlesnake bite into the paper, then squeeze the back of its head to get the venom out. Don't worry about the snake though; it can make more poison. If you are lucky you might even get to see the fangs.
- Grass Snake. People may not know if the grass snake is poisonous or not. If fact, it is not. The snake is very easy to recognise because of the yellow ring around its neck. These snakes also live in the UK. If you think this snake is slimy, think again - a snake is covered in the same stuff as your finger nails, which aren't wet and slimy either.
- Giant Python. A giant python can eat an antelope and survive a year without losing any weight, which is amazing. A 49-foot python is living in captivity in Indonesia, weighs almost half a tonne, and eats around five dogs a month apparently. It was thought to be the leader of a pack in the wild. MSNBC has it on video.
